Luteinizing hormone LH stimulates the mature follicle in the ovary to release the egg. Leutinizing hormone LH is the hormone that stimulates a follicle to develop a mature egg. LH and follicle stimulating hormone FSH work together to regulate egg production and ovulation in females. The luteinizing hormone is responsible for release of the egg from the mature follicle. The immature follicles do not release the eggs. Usually there are few immature follicles and one or two mature follicles. This luteinizing hormone comes from the anterior pituitary.
Ovulation is the release of eggs from the ovaries. In humans, this event occurs when the ovarian follicles rupture and release the secondary oocyte ovarian cells. In addition, the uterine lining endometrium is thickened to be able to receive a fertilized egg.
